In addition to the Syrian army, Iranian fighters and Lebanese Hezbollah troops are also stationed at the air base, according to the Observatory.

Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP that a missile bombardment killed an unspecified number of "Iranian and pro-regime fighters" at the T-4 base and was "likely to be Israeli".

Damascus, as well as its allies Iran and Russian Federation, blamed Israel for an April 9 air strike on the same Homs base, an attack that killed seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) members.

UK Brexit ministers Davis and Baker quit in major blow to May
In a move that could fire up eurosceptics in May's Conservative Party, a government source said that Steve Baker, a minister who worked for Davis, had also resigned .

Syrian military air defenses shot down missiles targeting the T4 air base in Homs province in an act of "aggression" attributed to Israel, Syrian state media said citing a military source.

On Sunday, Syria's official state television network SANA reported that the T-4 airbase near Homs had been struck with missiles attributed to the Israeli Air Force (IAF).

In recent months, Israel has carried out several air attacks on Iranian targets inside Syria that reportedly left a number of Iranian military personnel dead.

On Monday, May is due to brief MPs on the plan hammered out during a 12-hour meeting at Chequers, the prime minister's country retreat.

Meanwhile, the TV said six missiles landed in the vicinity of the base during the airstrike on Sunday, adding that damages were caused with no reports on casualties yet.

While Iran plays a key role propping up the regime of brutal Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, it also uses its positions in Syria to transfer weapons and infrastructure to its terror proxy in Lebanon, Hezbollah, a sworn enemy of Israel. Reports later surfaced that advanced Iranian Air defenses had been the target of the strike.

In February, an armed Iranian drone infiltrated into northern Israel in which the IDF claims was on a sabotage attack mission against the Jewish State.
