Baby found buried alive in Missoula County mountains

10 July 2018, 11:11 | Glen Norman

Eventually, Crowley told the deputies the infant was possibly buried somewhere in the mountains, Bassett said. That night, deputies received calls reporting a man who was acting strangely in the Lolo Hot Springs area. The man, later identified as 32-year-old Francis Carlton Crowley, was allegedly threatening people, putting his hands into his pockets, and telling people he had a gun.

This Sunday, July 8, 2018 photo provided by the Missoula County Sheriff's Office shows a 5-month-old infant with dirt under their fingernails after authorities say the baby survived about nine hours being buried under sticks and debris in the woods.

Deputies apprehended Crowley after he was found to have returned to the area.

"When deputies tried to interview him, he appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was not making sense to the officers", she said.

Hamilton accused of crying like a baby
But in a post released on his Instagram account on Monday, Hamilton said: "Kimi said sorry and I accept it and we move on". Hamilton began the day hoping for an unprecedented sixth Silverstone triumph, but soon found himself in dire straits.

That's when a deputy heard "the faint cry of a baby," the sheriff's office posted on Facebook.

Authorities soon learned that a 5-month-old baby, who had been left in Crowley's care, had been missing for several hours.

The baby was taken to a Montana hospital for treatment and was listed in good condition Sunday.

He found the baby face-down under the pile of sticks and debris, dressed only in a wet and soiled onesie in 8-degree (Celsius) weather.

Deputies sprang into action, calling in Missoula County Search and Rescue, the United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and Montana Highway Patrol to help search.

Police believe the baby had been left unattended in the woods for a minimum of nine hours. They say they won't be confirming names to protect the baby's identity.

It wasn't clear what Crowley's relationship is to the child or who the boy's mother is. Additional charges were expected. "For the officers who were present for this event, it's especially hard knowing what this small baby endured in the last 24 hours", the statement concluded.

"This was a huge miracle and we are thankful to everyone that came out to search and the people who made the 911 calls", Brenda Bassett, a sheriff's department spokeswoman in Missoula County, Montana, told ABC News.
