Brexit secretary David Davis resigns

10 July 2018, 10:24 | Glen Norman

Jeremy Hunt arrives at the Foreign Office in London after being appointed as the new Foreign Secretary, following Boris Johnson's resignation (Simon Dawson/PA).

But there was growing speculation about Mr Johnson's plans on Monday after he failed to attend a meeting of the Government's Cobra emergencies committee as well as a summit of Western Balkan nations being held in London.

DAVID Davis has resigned as Brexit Secretary in a major blow to Theresa May.

"It seems to me we're giving too much away, too easily, and that's a risky strategy at this time", Davis said in a BBC radio interview Monday morning. Jacob Rees-Mogg, who leads a bloc of Brexit-supporting Conservative MPs in Parliament, urged May to give up on the plan.

Thai cave rescue sees four more boys freed
Before resuming the rescue Monday, officials said they hoped to free all the boys by the end of the day, according to ABC News . After rescuing the four boys, the officials paused the operation for at least 10 hours to fill the oxygen tanks that were used.

In a resignation letter to the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson said that Britain appeared to be "heading for a semi-Brexit" and would take on "the status of a colony" under her plans.

"It is clear this Government can not secure a good deal for Britain".

Mrs May is expected to tell MPs that the strategy agreed on at Chequers is the "right Brexit" for Britain.

Two senior sources confirmed Mr Davis' departure from the Cabinet.

Prince Louis's christening to take place in the Chapel Royal
Three years later, Kate was seen in the dress again during a garden party at Buckingham Palace in honour of the Queen. Prince Louis will be christened in the Lily Font , a silver gilt font and bowl decorated in lilies, ivy and cherubs.

The then culture secretary was under intense pressure to resign over his contacts with Rupert Murdoch's media empire while he was considering its BSkyB takeover bid.

"In his resignation letter, Davis said the "'common rule book policy hands control of large swathes of our economy to the European Union and is certainly not returning control of our laws in any real sense". I'd have to present it in Europe. I'd have to be the champion of the policy which I didn't believe in, so that doesn't work. May appointed staunchly pro-Brexit lawmaker Dominic Raab to replace Davis, who insisted he did not want his resignation to become a rallying cry for the prime minister's ouster. It is also clear that by surrendering control over our rulebook for goods and agrifoods (and much else besides) we will make it much more hard to do free trade deals.

But leading pro-Brexit legislator Jacob Rees-Mogg said "I don't think a no-confidence vote is immediately in the offing".

"Jeremy Hunt is in a very powerful position now, the only question is how much he chooses to deploy that power", his former Lib Dem junior minister Norman Lamb told The Guardian.
