George Clooney 'has been injured in a bike accident in Sardinia'

The actor George Clooney has reportedly been hospitalised after he was involved in an accident while riding a motorbike in Sardinia.

The accident is said to have taken place near Costa Corallina, in the province of Olbia, according to Private Mediaset, citing gossip magazine Chi.

Immediately after the crash, Clooney was transported to a nearby hospital.

Calls and emails to Clooney's spokesman in regards to the accident weren't immediately returned, according to Associated Press. He was joined by wife Amal Clooney and it has been reported that the pair left the hospital together in a private vehicle .

An ambulance later took Clooney to the nearest hospital, according to Cicognani.

Italian paper La Nuova reported that he was rushed to the emergency room at John Paul II Hospital, but he is not believed to be seriously hurt.

Clooney is now filming his new TV series "Catch 22" on the island, which also features Hugh Laurie and Austin Stowell ("Whiplash").
