Cardi B Files $15 Million Countersuit Against Ex-Manager
Cardi B has filed a $15 million countersuit against her ex manager Klenord "Shaft" Raphael, TMZ is reporting. Shaft started to manage Cardi's career in 2014, and he reportedly had a helping hand in getting her a spot on the cast of Love & Hip Hop.
Not only did Shaft receive a 20% commission, but he tried to get even more money off the performer's Sonymusic publishing deal - allegedly demanding 50% of that deal.
Cardi also claimsShaft attempted to tell her who she should and shouldn't date, affecting her romance with husband Offset, the father of her unborn first child.
Shaft, real name Klenord Raphael, launched his suit against his former client in April, claiming he made her a star and she cut him off financially.
Since leaving Raphael's management, Cardi's career has been guided by Quality Control's Solid Foundation, which is run by Kevin Lee and Pierre Thomas. "Shaft's last-second token suggestion that Ms. Almanzar have her own separate counsel review the Atlantic Recording Corporation deal, which was presented as a fait accompli, hardly excuses the blatant breach of trust and breaches of the duty of care, loyalty and candor which Counter-Defendants owed to Ms. Almanzar".
The rapper, 25, is suing Shaft after he went after her for $10 million earlier this year.
In one instance, he said Offset contacted him late past year, saying he was a "snake" who had taken more than his fair share of Cardi B's earnings.
After filing the complaint, a representative for Raphael explained: "Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image".
