England V. Croatia, Winner Will Play France

THE hopes and fears of the nation have reached new heights ahead of England's semi-final clash with Croatia.

But defeat still stings for Gareth Southgate and his overachieving players.

In 1990, three years before Kane was born, England also fell short at the semifinal stage - on penalties against West Germany.

"I've got a amusing feeling that the momentum is so good, and, you know, especially now that we're all going to turn up with special Gareth waistcoats, and that can only help can't it", said fan Lee Walkup, 50. "But, in time, I'm sure we'll reflect upon the progress we've made".

NPR's sports correspondent Tom Goldman says today's match is being played against a political backdrop.

"But if we are ready and compact like we were against Argentina, I don't believe we'll have any problems".

The now seven-year-old cake is a tier taken from The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding cake when the pair Wednesday in 2011. But when Prince William arrived with the newborn's two siblings, it was Charlotte who commanded the limelight.

But not everyone from Bournemouth will be rooting for Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson. And Croatia would never let England get so close again. There is still one game to play and the most important of our careers.

England coach Gareth Southgate said his team need to "suffer" their loss to Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals and understand the opportunity they passed up before pondering the positives from their remarkable campaign.

She added that she is flying back to Croatia and would be watching the game as part of a joint birthday football celebration.

Pundit and former England star Gary Lineker said he was "utterly choked" but the "young side gave absolutely everything".

It's four years away, sure, and a lot can change in that time.

"I've got the utmost respect for him - he's been banging goals in for Spurs for several seasons - but he's not alone, his team-mates play at top clubs, so it will be hard".

Anderson stuns Federer in five-set thriller
Anderson hit 13 winners and just four unforced errors in the fourth set as he claimed the only break to force a decider. Federer took the first two sets and then the South African returned strongly to take the third and fourth sets.

While fans in England dispersed and the fan parks emptied, Croatia will be preparing for one more big party come Sunday.

Leicester City will want a huge fee for England's World Cup hero Harry Maguire, who is reportedly on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.

He said: "The momentum is growing and I think our squad has greater depth".

After Wednesday's dramatic win over England, few will be eager to head home just yet.

"I was back in my hometown, rooting for Croatia in my jersey", Perisic told reporters. We are probably beyond where we thought we might be able to go.
