Fobbed off: woman accidentally steals vehicle for two weeks after key mix-up

12 July 2018, 12:30 | Glen Norman

The saga began in late June when a woman rented a black Nissan Sentra from Enterprise Rent-A-Car company in Cornwall, Ont., about an hour west of Montreal.

Neither of the cars required keys to start the engine instead using key fobs, which the owner left in the vehicle.

The stolen vehicle was a 2015 black Infiniti QX50, but the woman didn't notice it wasn't the sedan she had rented.

Theresa May promises orderly Brexit amid more resignations, confidence vote calls
But many pro-Brexit lawmakers are furious at a plan they say will stop Britain forging an independent economic course. In case there was any doubt on the matter, he added: "I like Boris Johnson , I've always liked him".

After 2 weeks, she came back to Enterprise return the vehicle, and she made sure she complained to the manager about giving her a dirty, obviously used auto. Since the rental auto used the same system she was none the wiser to the mixup and drove off on her merry way.

The woman - who police described as being "confused and a wee bit embarrassed herself" - contacted police, explaining that she had accidentally taken an Infinity and driven around in it for two weeks.

And so began the sleuthing, as the auto rental manager and the embarrassed renter started retracing her steps, beginning in the Walmart parking lot.

Federer ended up with more points won than Anderson in this match, but ultimately the difference came down to two unforced errors. The first hiccup surfaced at the start of the second set with Anderson breaking the Federer serve and ending that run of holds.

Coincidentally, the man whose auto was stolen came into the same rental place a few days later and told the manager about how his vehicle had been stolen from the Wal Mart.

"In conversation with the manager of that establishment it came out that he was the owner of a black Infiniti that was recently stolen", MacKay said.

In the end, both the auto rental company and the Infiniti owner retrieved their vehicles and there was a happy ending to the story. When they reached the Walmart parking lot, the rental auto was still sitting in the same spot where it had been parked two weeks before, police noted. They even tried to explain that the model she was trying to return wasn't on file but she apparently did not want to hear it. "And she was giving the manager the business on renting her a dirty vehicle", MacKay said. The keys the woman had returned belonged to an Infiniti vehicle, not the Nissan she had rented. For one, it was messy when she picked it up - and there was a set of golf clubs in the trunk.

And that's not even where the story ends. After all, she had no inkling she'd stolen the vehicle she was driving. The man who had his auto stolen found the situation amusing according to the CBC. After they realized what had happened, the first thing they did was call the police.
