Pakistan's former PM Nawaz Sharif arrested hours after a huge suicide attack kills at least 70
MASTUNG: More than 100 people including Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, younger brother of former chief minister Balochistan Aslam Raisai and BAP candidate for Balochistan Assembly, have been martyred and about 150 others injured in a suicide blast in Mastung.
Sharif's arrival in the eastern city of Lahore was delayed until 8pm.
Earlier he had also confirmed that the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber and that the explosion had killed Siraj Raisani, who was running for a provincial seat with the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).
Sharif and Maryam were earlier this month sentenced to 10 years and seven years in prison, respectively, over the purchase of upscale London flats.
Sharif and his daughter are expected to be transported to the garrison city of Rawalpindi, where both will serve their jail term if they don't seek bail.
"We have more than 200 people injured and under treatment at different hospitals in Quetta and condition of some of the wounded is critical", he said.
Durrani belongs to an alliance of religious groups called Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, which ruled the province between 2002 and 2008 under him.
This is the second major incident of pre-poll violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk also condemned the attack in separate statements.
"There seems to be a conspiracy to sabotage the 25 July elections but the people of Pakistan will not allow any design meant to target these historic elections to succeed", he tweeted. The military denied the accusations, and said its assistance had been requested by Pakistan's election commission.
