The virus was detected in a pool of mosquitoes collected June 18 in Easton.

Mosquito populations around Huron have been significantly reduced through citywide spraying, but people are reminded to remain vigilant because Culex tarsalis, the carrier of West Nile virus, is now present in higher numbers.

The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reports its first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in 2018.

- Consider staying indoors at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
