ISIS claims responsibility for deadly Toronto shooting

Monday afternoon, Canadian police identified the shooter as Faisal Hussain and refused to either confirm or rule out terrorism as a possible motive. "A lot of people here are afraid of my dog, but he wasn't".

While the number of trafficked firearms that make their way across the border from the USA into Canada is not known, CBSA figures show that as many as 751 firearms were seized at the border in fiscal year 2017-2018. His lanky body was clad in black.

The Toronto Star reported yesterday that Hussain worked at the same Loblaws supermarket chain as two of the shooting victims - Reese Fallon, the 18-year-old killed in the attack, and Samantha Price, who was wounded. After a brief exchange of gunfire with the police, the suspect was found dead.

Many are pointing out much Toronto has already endured this year in light of April's deadly van attack, when a 25-year-old driver intentionally rammed into pedestrians along Yonge Street in North York, killing 10 people and injuring 16 more.

Aamir Sukhera, who described himself as a friend, told reporters that while Hussain had confided his history of mental illness, he tried to hide his struggles from the world at large.

A family spokesman confirmed to Global News that Hussain owned a replica BB gun, but denied he had any special obsession with the Batman movies or any particular character.

The psychiatric association said Hussain is an outlier among mental health patients, citing several studies that challenge the link between mental illness and violent conduct.

The National Post spoke with a friend of Hussain who said he showed no interest in religion.

Toronto police chief Mark Saunders said that all areas of the Toronto Police Service have been involved in the investigation and they have received assistance from law enforcement partners at every level.
