Don't miss the meteor shower

An observer and the spectacular appearance of our Milky Way galaxy as seen from a very dark site
The Perseids produce the highest number of bright fireball meteors.
The Perseids occur every year from mid-July to late August, when Earth passes through the wide band of debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle's various visits to our part of the galaxy.
This Perseid meteor shower will take place during a almost new moon-meaning it won't interfere with the show-and is expected to be the best meteor shower this year. You can tell if a meteor is a Perseid by following its direction backwards and, if it's coming from the direction of Perseus, it's a Perseid.
Some 60 to 100 meteors better known as shooting stars can be seen per hour as the Earth encounters the gritty debris of Comet Swift-Tuttle, the icy parent of the Perseid meteor shower. And human habitation in the area can be dated as far back as 10,000 years ago, making this dark sky park the most ancient site in America to view the Perseids.

"A meteor shower is a collision between the Earth and the trail of a comet or an asteroid", Dr. Faherty says.
"Comets are spectacular and handsome and take months to go across the sky but every time they go near the sun they are melted down a little bit".
Persied meteor shower peaks this weekend
The Perseid meteor shower may be an annual event, but it's such an exciting celestial show that it's always worth another look. As meteors enter the earth's atmosphere they leave streaks of light in the sky, which some people call shooting stars.
"The dunes at Mleiha, especially around Al Faya Mountain and The Fossil Rock, offer a secluded experience for visitors and sky watchers who look forward to create great memories out of this opportunity". Although the peak occurs this weekend, the Perseids are visible for several nights after that. Venus will be the first to appear after the sun sets and will be best viewed on the western horizon at around 9:30 p.m. local time.
When is the next meteor shower?
Meteor showers are typically visible with the naked eye, and so no special equipment is needed (Photo: Shutterstock)How regular will the meteors be? But, keep your head up and eye to the sky, you might catch a glimpse of a few shooting stars in the days leading up to or days following the peak.
