Perseids 2018 The Perseid meteor shower will be among the greatest spectacles of the year
From Aug.11-13, the Perseid meteor shower will send between 60 and 70 meteors shooting across the sky every hour. If stargazers miss the show on Saturday, they also can look for it again beginning at about 11 p.m. on Sunday night.
In fact, you can expect to see between fifty to a hundred meteors an hour in places where the sky is very dark.

Twarog warns that the meteors cross the sky fairly quickly. However, observers in the mid-Southern Hemisphere will still have a chance of seeing some shooting stars if they look toward the northeast horizon. The summer Perseids originate from the comet Swift-Tuttle. There are some comets astronomers have been studying for years and they know they have large clumps along the orbit as opposed to a stream of particles. With some luck, you should be able to catch a glimpse of the shooting stars yourself.
Part of the reason the Perseids really sizzle in the summer sky in the northern hemisphere isn't the seasonal heat, but rather their speed, which can be almost 60 kilometers per second (134,000 miles per hour).
Meanwhile, the best place to view the Perseids meteor shower is in the Northern Hemisphere, so viewers in the United Kingdom and USA should be golden.
If you're counting meteors, notice there are times when numerous meteors are visible followed by a near absence of activity.
Swift-Tuttle measures a massive 16 miles, and last passed by Earth in 1992.
The Perseid meteor shower is a prolific meteor shower which occurs every year in mid-August.
Can I only watch the peak?
"Comets are spectacular and attractive and take months to go across the sky but every time they go near the sun they are melted down a little bit".
