WhatsApp specifically faced the anger of Indian regulators following the spread of a false or fake message, which circulated on the messaging app's platform and caused a series of mobbing and crowd beatings throughout the nation.

It also pointed out various rumour based crimes that had happened in the country and said that the growth of such incidents was directly proportional to the growth of the user base of messaging services like WhatsApp. Whatsapp will basically check whether a URL shared by users belongs to a reputed neighborhood or not.

Regarding the novel feature, it said in a blogpost, "Today, we're launching a test to limit forwarding that will apply to everyone using WhatsApp". However a user could go back to the message and forward it again to another five contacts or groups.
