Hurricane Hector to pass just south of Hawaii

Hurricane Hector is due to hit Hawaii's Big Island within 24 hours
Hawaii County officials declared a precautionary state of emergency ahead of the storm.
On Aug. 8 at 7:45 a.m. EDT (1145 UTC) the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer or MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite analyzed Hurricane Hector's cloud top temperatures in infrared light. That's about 240 miles (390 km) south-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. The latest advisory from the Pacific Hurricane Center clocked the storm moving west at 16 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 125 miles per hour. This general motion is expected to continue through Thursday, with a gradual turn toward the northwest expected Friday and Saturday. Hector is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

Friday and Saturday night, where visitors can look through the telescope to view Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and potentially Venus. No special equipment is needed, but if you want the best view, it helps to be as far from artificial light as possible.
However, the hurricane was forecast to weaken a little over the next 48 hours. However, Hector will likely remain a powerful hurricane through Thursday night.
The eye of the storm is expected to pass about 150 miles south of the Big Island.
An uptick in squalls, locally heavy rain, brief gusty winds, heavy seas and surf may occur on the islands through the latter part of the week, AccuWeather reported.
If the storm deviates northwards it could bring Hector close enough to impact the Big Island directly. "However, very rough surf is expected to impact mostly south- and east-facing coastal areas of the Big Island".
There are warnings of potentially high surf on southeast shores of Ka'u and Puna, located on the coastline of the Hawaii Volcanoes national Park. Hector's strongest winds are confined to about 40 miles from the eye and are not expected to affect the island.
NASA's mission to 'touch the sun' starts tomorrow
Nasa says the TPS has been tested to withstand up to 1,650C temperatures and "can handle any heat the sun can send its way". Successive flybys will be closer, culminating, in 2024, with a series of encounters just 3.8m miles above the sun's surface.
