Sony’s Spider Man Universe Gets an Official Name! John F. Trent
Our movie wants to honor the comics as close as we can tonally. And you can thank your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man for that. In essence, they're building a Spider-Man cinematic universe without Spider-Man.
Like a "turd in the wind", Venom is slowly but surely rolling towards us for it's October release. This may be why the report indicated that Sony is open to lending out more characters to the MCU, in exchange for a few guest appearances from Marvel's side of the universe.
Sony is dipping into its Spider-Man-related Marvel Comics properties and throwing everything at the screen, with movies reportedly in development based on the characters Silk and Jackpot. Unfortunately for die hard Venom fans, Sony is aiming to keep the anti-hero at the PG-13 range, but is said to be pushing the envelope with the rating. The previously mentioned Morbius the Living Vampire already has Daniel "Safe House" Espinosa directing Jared Leto as the main character, while Richard Wenk (The Equalizer 1 & 2, The Magnificent Seven) has been tapped to pen the screenplay for a solo Kraven the Hunter movie.
With the Silver & Black film getting scrapped it also means that writer and director Gina Prince-Blythewood could be leaving as well.
They believe Black Cat can stand on her own and will feature in her own film.
You've heard of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Universal's dormant Dark Universe, but what about the SUMC? There are also plans for more Spider-Man affiliated characters to show-up in Marvel movies as well as Avengers possibly making cameos in Sony films.

Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will mark Miles Morales' feature film debut and Peter Parker will be on hand to mentor the young hero as he begins his superhero career. Before Jake Gyllenhaal had been tapped as Mysterio for Spider-Man: Far From Home, I had been rooting like insane for Kraven to be the next Spider-Man movie villain.
