Boris Johnson burka row

Rowan Atkinson has defended the controversial comments made by Boris Johnson, British politician and current Member of Parliament (MP) for Uxbridge and South Ruislip.

The Independent understands that following the complaints, party chiefs must now decide whether the allegation is serious enough to establish an investigatory panel to ascertain whether Mr Johnson has broken the party's code of conduct.

In a newspaper article on Monday, Johnson had opposed a complete ban on Islamic clothing in line with the recent burqa ban in Denmark, but said that "it was absolutely ridiculous that people should choose to go around looking like letter boxes".

His remarks that they look like "letter boxes" and "bank robbers" - made in a column for the Telegraph - have led some to accuse him of using offensive language and Islamophobia. "On that basis, no apology is required", he added.

Can Arsenal Turn Their Fortune Around Against Man City???
For Arsenal , their biggest concern will be at left-back with two specialist players in that position out for the fixture. Arsenal is a good opponent to manage a win as Manchester City have been proved powerful in their recent clashes.

Senior Conservative figures attacked the prime minister after the party confirmed that following a series of complaints, Mr Johnson is to face a full investigation.

"You should really only apologize for a bad joke".

"Unfortunately under the new code of conduct, if a formal complaint is lodged - and I believe that reports say Lord Sheikh, a conservative peer, has lodged a formal complaint - it has to be investigated". His Brexiteer credentials were bolstered when he resigned as foreign secretary in July, accusing May of killing "the Brexit dream" with her plan to seek close economic ties with the bloc after Brexit next year. 'Completely entitled to say it'Jacob Rees-Mogg, Tory MP for North East Somerset " He's completely entitled to say it and there's nothing to apologise for", Mr Rees-Mogg told Nigel Farage on LBC.

"The burqa and niqab are ugly tribal ninja-like garments that are pre-Islamic, non-Koranic and therefore un-Muslim", he wrote in The Times.

The party declined to comment on the disciplinary procedure.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, he added: "Just because we find something distasteful doesn't mean it's either illegal or it shouldn't happen".

Mr Johnson, who is holidaying overseas, has made no response to demands for an apology and sources who are close to him have made clear he stands by the article.
