Idris Elba reignites Bond rumours with cryptic tweet

The next movie will be his fifth as the spy

Daniel Craig

Idris Elba appears to have caught wind of the latest round of rumors that he might one day play James Bond, and he's having some fun with the buzz on social media.

Twitter reacted to his post with a host of memes, including a photoshopped President Trump holding up a picture of Elba and announcing him as the new Bond, and a proud looking Sean Connery punching the air. The first was a heavily filtered selfie of the top half of his head with the caption, "my name is Elba, Idris Elba". As fans of Bond know, that's almost exactly like the iconic "Bond, James Bond".

Rumours about Elba being next in line for the role after Daniel Craig holsters his gun and leaves the franchise for good next year have been swirling since 2014.

Well, Elba followed that up a few hours later with another post simply telling fans "Don't believe the HYPE". She was apparently even certain that "it will happen eventually".

The publication claimed director Antoine Fuqua said: "Idris could do it if he was in shape".
