Washington readies for today’s planned white supremacist rally near White House

U.Va. was the scene of a torch-lit march the night before the first Unite the Right rally past year, where hundreds of white nationalists, carrying Tiki torches, gathered at the rotunda and surrounded a group of counterprotesters around the Jefferson statue.

White supremacists are set to rally outside the White House on Sunday, one year after torch-wielding neo-Nazis clashed with counter demonstrators in a deadly protest that highlighted the growing boldness of the extreme right in the United States.

"The riots in Charlottesville a year ago resulted in senseless death and division", the president tweeted.
