Woodward: Trump Is 'Detached' From Reality, Jeopardizes National Security

Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday to accuse famed Watergate reporter Bob Woodward of fabricating quotes and information in his new book Fear Trump in the White House

Several people in Trump's orbit have called the book's accuracy into question, while Woodward has maintained several times that he stands by his reporting.

Stelter also confirmed and said Woodward has written books about pretty much every presidency and he has an enormous amount of credibility because he has written a total of eighteen books.

In January, Trump raged about Pakistan's "lies and deceit" and the administration announced the suspension of almost $2 billion in security-related aid.

Taking a measured tone during the 20 televised minutes he appeared on the show, Woodward said that it took a good amount of time - and patience - to secure the interviews and documents that he used for his book, which depicts the Trump White House as a byzantine, treacherous, often out-of-control operation.

Case in point, one excerpt reveals the newly appointed National Economic Council director Gary Cohn's "I've had a huge mistake" moment in his first meeting with then president-elect Trump.

In response, Pulitzer Prize-winning Mr Woodward, who along with Carl Bernstein exposed the Watergate scandal in the 1970s, said Mr Mattis and Mr Kelly "are not telling the truth" when denying they made the remarks and "these are political statements to protect their jobs". Many have already come forward to say the quotes by them, like the book, are fiction.

The wave of Trump-related books will continue for the foreseeable future. The scene, and the book, end with Trump's lawyer calling him a "fucking liar".

Woodward described Cohn as "astounded" that Trump didn't realize that issuing bonds to borrow money would increase the national debt. During the lengthy interview, Colbert asked what in Woodward's research gave him the most fear?

The White House says Camp David, the USA president's country retreat, offers the commander-in-chief "solitude, tranquility, and a place to host foreign leaders".

In his statement, Cohn attempted to flatter the president.

Trump and many of his senior aides have publicly condemned the book, which paints a picture of a chaotic White House where staff will go as far as to steal a letter off the president's Oval Office desk to keep him from implementing a harmful policy.

It also says that in late 2017, Trump almost sent a tweet about withdrawing "all United States military dependents - thousands of family members of 28,500 troops" from South Korea.

Moreover, the book can hardly be said to be strictly objective.

Charles reported that Barnes and Noble said "Fear" was its fastest-selling book since Harper Lee's 2015 novel "Go Set a Watchman", the long-awaited follow-up to "To Kill a Mockingbird".

Trump also derided his predecessor's return to politics.
