Nobel peace laureate Annan, who was the world body's first leader from sub-Saharan Africa, died aged 80 on August 18 after a short illness.

Annan began his career at the United Nations as a budget officer in Geneva and rose through the ranks to become head of finance in NY before his appointment as secretary-general in 1996.

Around 6,000 mourners packed the auditorium for Thursday's official service - the climax of a multi-day funeral ceremony, which has seen his coffin, draped in the Ghanaian national colors, displayed for public viewing.
