There have been at least ten deaths after devastating floods hit Nadal's native island off the coast of Spain.

At least five people were killed as heavy rain and flash floods hit Sant Llorenc on the Spanish island of Mallorca late on Tuesday, emergency services said.

The Spaniard sprung into action after the town of Sant Llorenc des Cardassar, about 60 kilometres east of the island's capital Palma, was devastated by the rainstorm.

Mr Green, 77, and his wife, 75, were being driven to a hotel in Cala Bona when they were caught in the floodwaters, newspaper Diario de Mallorca reported.

The Foreign Office said in a statement: "We are in contact with the Spanish authorities responding to flooding in Majorca, and urgently seeking updates from them".

A Balearic Islands' emergency services spokeswoman, who wasn't authorized to be named in media reports, told The Associated Press that the body of a Dutch woman was also recovered from the garage of a house in Arta, another nearby town.

Other victims were found in Arta and the coastal village of S'illot, where the creek that overflowed reaches the sea.

Powerful storm clobbers the Southeast
The National Hurricane Center predicts Michael will stay a powerful and unsafe rainmaker as it moves across the U.S. Maximum sustained winds are forecast to be in the range of 40 to low 50 miles per hour range, according to the NWS.

"As far as I know, I have lost everything", she told an AP camera crew.

"We have lots of vacation homes", Bauza said.

The Spanish weather agency reported around 8in (20.3cm) of rain fell in four hours on Tuesday evening in parts of the island.
