Vikings' Everson Griffen to return to the team after receiving mental health treatment

Everson Griffen was back at practice with the Minnesota Vikings for the first time in nearly six weeks, a significant point of progress in returning to his spot at right defensive end and re-establishing his pass-rushing and run-stopping skills in a game setting for the NFC North leaders.

Griffen apologized to his teammates six days after the incidents in Minnetrista and Minneapolis, where he allegedly threatened to assault staffers at a hotel in which he had been staying on September 22. He was scheduled to speak with reporters afterward. Stephen Weatherly has started in Griffen's place at right end for the past five games.

"Everybody in life has probably had to deal with these different types of issues that go on and not necessarily (physical injuries)", Zimmer said.

Back injury forces Eddie Pepperell to withdraw from HSBC Champions
Johnson failed to make a birdie during the final round previous year , while Rose shot a 67 to claim victory. Rory McIlroy is also intent on securing a maiden victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions and a 15 PGA TOUR title.

"I don't think this is as unique as what we are making it out to be", Zimmer said Wednesday. "You need to go out there and find a good support team and do all the right things to be able to take care of yourself. I just want to get better with some of the decisions that I made and just improve on them", Griffen said. In due time, Griffen said, he aims to regain his role as the vibrant, energetic team leader he has built his reputation as over nine years in the NFL.

Griffen had been away from the team since Week 3, dealing with his mental health. "I'm sure some people in this room have dealt with some of these things".

"While this is an exciting and positive move forward for me, it is only the next step in a longer process", Griffen said in a statement. "Just doing all the little things", Griffen said of what stood out.

"Any time you miss four weeks or whatever it was, there's a little bit of rust", Zimmer said.

"We're just going to see how he comes back, " Zimmer said.

For now, Griffen's message to others struggling with mental health is clear.
