The ministers also launched an Asthma manual for schools to help schools build better management plans for emergencies and recognise symptoms among children, especially in cities like Delhi with at least four to five months of poor air quality every year.

Besides overpopulation and dust, one of the main reasons of increasing air pollution levels in Delhi is crop burning by the farmers in the neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. This is part of the Graded Response Action Plan, which came into effect on Oct 15, to tackle the deteriorating pollution levels in the city.

The EPCA has stopped all construction activities involving excavation and civil construction (excluding internal finishing/work where no construction material is used) till November 10.

Noting that private vehicles contribute to 40 per cent pollution in Delhi-NCR, the EPCA urged people to reduce use of private vehicles during this period and use public transport or other means.
