Medical marijuana has been legal in MI since 2008, when 63 percent of voters approved it. MI joins nine states in legalizing recreational use: Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.

A ballot measure in North Dakota would make it legal for residents 21 or older to grow, possess and use marijuana in whatever quantity they want.

The state will also be able to issue licenses for dispensaries and other marijuana-related businesses, with taxes on the businesses projected to bring in $112 million to $275 million a year, according to estimates collected by The Detroit Free Press.

Scientists have also been unable to concretely identify it as a comet because it lacks a tail or "coma" around it. Just in case, astronomers pointed powerful radio telescopes at the object to scan for radio transmissions .

MI now joins nine other states that have legalized marijuana for all uses: Washington, Colorado, California, Oregon, Alaska, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada and Vermont.

MI voters have passed an initiative to legalize marijuana.

It will also be legal to give someone else 2.5 ounces of marijuana. The initiative charges the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs with creating a licensing system for commercial production and distribution, subject to a 10 percent tax on retail sales.

In Missouri, voters will be asked to chose between three separate proposals legalizing medical marijuana to varying degrees.

In Utah, the Salt Lake Tribune projected that voters would approve Proposition 2, which allows patients to legally use, possess and purchase marijuana for medical purposes for conditions such as HIV, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, epilepsy, autism, cancer and Alzheimer's. Municipalities can choose to ban or restrict marijuana businesses within their borders.

In October, Utah medical marijuana advocates and state lawmakers agreed to a compromise bill that would legalize medical marijuana in the state but with some differences from the ballot initiative.
