AMD shows Zen 2-based 7nm EPYC Rome CPU in action

There is a single 14nm I/O die, with eight memory controllers, with Infinity Fabric ports and PCIexpress lanes, and then 7nm chipset which handle the CPU tasks themselves. Both, regardless of model, connect to the host on a PCI Express 4.0 (PCIe 4.0) bus, while an onboard Infinity Fabric link allows for up to four GPUs to be connected together in a 'hive ring configuration' with 200GB/s of peer-to-peer bandwidth.

"The multi-chip processor uses 7nm process technology for the "Zen 2" CPU cores that benefit from the advanced process technology, while leveraging a mature 14nm process technology for the input/output portion of the chip". But rather, they have unveiled their next generation EPYC CPU dubbed "Rome".

We have 2x performance per socket compared to the previous-gen EPYC processor, and this is an insane leap in performance.

Tanzania releases journalists Muthoki Mumo, Angela Quintal
They were detained by Tanzanian authorities on Wednesday night for reasons that remain unclear. Quintal tweeted before 1am on Tuesday morning that she and her colleague had been released.

Key to this better performance is AMD's choice to manufacture Rome on TSMC's 7nm process technology, which gave chip designers a larger transistor budget, while also offering increased performance and performance per watt.

AMD's Mark Papermaster says the new Zen 2 cores offer double the throughput of Zen and twice the floating point performance.

In a head-to-head performance preview, AMD's single-socket EPYC Rome did not only managed to match but actually be faster than Intel's dual-socket platform, showing the potential of a 7nm EPYC Rome CPU based on Zen 2 architecture.

'Meat tax' may prevent 6000 deaths per year in United Kingdom , study suggests
Due to its relatively modest healthcare spending the United Kingdom is somewhere in the middle with an 80% increase. But the study is a useful reminder that eating a lot of processed meat in particular does have an impact on health.

What's not known is how much of the Rome DNA will make it into the consumer Ryzen 2 due early next year.

The 7nm manufacturing process and indeed the Zen timeline doesn't stop with the highly-anticipated Zen 2. Futhermore, this has also waylaid Intel's plans for significant performance improvements. "As important, on higher-threaded applications, I am expecting improved scaling with more cores".

AMD was also focused on providing a stable roadmap revealing that Zen 2 EPYC Rome is sampling now, with availability expected in 2019, while Zen 3 Milan is on track and should come sometime in 2020. We know Lisa Su is scheduled to deliver a keynote at CES in January. These ROME CPUs however have hardware mitigations for Spectre. Just one day later durings its Next Horizon event, AMD not only lifted the lid on its 7nm 64-core EPYC CPU within the Zen 2 family, but revealed that development of its 7nm+ Zen 3 and Zen 4 lines were also coming along nicely.
