Ratelband, described as an "entrepreneur and self-help guru", also says that being 20 years younger will help him get more work as a consultant, among other benefits.
Ratelband said he is willing to renounce his pension if the court grants his wish, though the chances of it happening appear slim as it's believed there is no legal way for a person to change their date of birth.
Local media said that Ratelband, who is a media personality and motivational speaker, is a trainer in neuro-linguistic programming and described himself as a "young god". Well, he says that if transgender people are allowed to self-identify, he should be allowed to change his date of birth because doctors said he has the body of a 45-year-old.
The judge said that he had some sympathy with Mr Ratelband as people could now change their gender which would once have been unthinkable. If I'm 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different vehicle.
Ratelband seems especially focused on getting his dating life back on track and says that he isn't anxious that women who see him in the flesh may be disappointed.
The pensioner has said he is ready to give up his pension if the court agrees to let him change his age. "Who was that little boy?" he was quoted as saying.
The court is due to deliver a written ruling within four weeks.
