The Canadian Union of Postal Workers announced Monday morning it would "rally" at the office of Amarjeet Sohi, minister of natural resources, to support the efforts of those striking.

In a statement, Canada Post said strike action was impacting service in Edmonton, Calgary, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, as well as 10 locations in Ontario and nine locations in Newfoundland.

In London, the strike began at 10 p.m. Sunday, the union said.

Jarema said the dramatic increase in online shopping and the corresponding jump in parcel delivery has boosted the importance of his members' services.

The company hasn't provided a full list of the closures and a company spokeswoman didn't immediately comment. The company said it closed 95 underperforming stores on Sunday to begin the process of restructuring.

Canada Post has said negotiations, through a special mediator appointed by the federal government, continue with CUPW. "Until Canada Post negotiators address it, we can solve it for ourselves in the meantime", said Palecek.

Canada Post's massive processing centre in Mississauga has been shut down for the second time in the past three weeks, as rotating strikes from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) continue across Canada. He said it's unclear if this will last for more than one day.

In recent years, said Hamilton, the corporation's parcel deliveries have seen double-digit yearly increases.

Some of the issues include how postal workers in urban and rural areas are paid and working conditions.

Dozens more have died since then, according to a tally reported by Congo's health ministry. Since 2014, about 2,000 people have been killed in clashes between armed groups.

Canada Post said it remains committed to the bargaining process.

Canada Post says the rotating strikes have shut down operations in more than 70 communities across the country, including the three largest processing facilities in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal for at least 48 hours.

The statement says Canada Post has also "committed to work together to address employees' workload concerns caused by parcel growth, additional financial services and going beyond pay equity for rural and suburban employees by extending job security and moving to one uniform for all delivery employees".

So far, 90 communities have been hit with the rotating strikes since they began October 22, said Hamilton.
