Attorney General Jeff Sessions Resigns
09 November 2018, 03:13 | Glen Norman
Could Sessions resignation be an opportunity for Kris Kobach?
Sessions and President Trump have had a contentious relationship nearly from the start of the administration, and the attorney general's reluctance to crack down on legal cannabis states could theoretically be attributed, in part, to that dynamic.
A handful of Republicans joined in the chorus, including Utah senator and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney who wrote on Twitter it was "imperative. that the Mueller investigation proceeds to its conclusion unimpeded".
New Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, whose appointment means he will supervise special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, has a personal tie to one of the witnesses in the probe: Whitaker was the campaign chairman for Sam Clovis in 2014 when Clovis ran for state treasurer in Iowa. Whitaker had served as Sessions' chief of staff.
Mr Mueller is investigating alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, resulting in a series of criminal charges against several Trump associates. Today, he declared victory, taking claim for "Kavanaugh's Revenge" after Democrats failed to win enough seats to have a majority in the Senate.
On the very morning after Kobach lost his bid for the Governor's Mansion, a new job opening has some people thinking Kobach may get a spot in President Trump's Cabinet - and it may not take much more than two seconds.
Mr Sessions, who was an early backer of the Trump campaign, recused himself in March 2017 from overseeing the Russian Federation investigation under a similar rule which prohibits officials from overseeing investigations into subjects with whom they have a "a personal or political relationship".
The department confirmed he would be assuming oversight of the Mueller probe from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

It is expected the courtroom will be sealed off to anyone other than the parties involved because of the involvement of minors. Sources tell People that the listed court date is seen as a target date for Brad and Angie to reach an agreement on custody.
One reason Sessions endured months of taunting from Trump is that he believed he was protecting the integrity of the Justice Department and was trying to prevent the president from bringing in someone who would politicize it, according to a US official who has worked with Sessions and frequently talked with him.
Sessions took himself out of decision-making on the probe in March 2017 even after Trump dispatched the White House lawyer to persuade him not to do so, according to a person familiar with the matter. His recusal was one of his first public acts as attorney-general.

The employee added that the firm threatened to reduce their severance pay should they resign from their jobs. In the video, which has been deleted, a topless man can be seen standing in the middle of a room.
