Lawmakers considering stopgap spending measure ahead of government funding deadline

Congress is expected to introduce a two-week temporary funding bill to avert a federal government shutdown this week over President Donald Trump's border wall as business in the Capitol comes to a standstill for ceremonies honoring former President George H.W. Bush.

The Republican-led House of Representatives will seek later this week to pass an extension to December 21, congressional aides said.

U.S. border force agents reported that people were attempting to breach the fence separating the United States and Mexico, and they were forced to fire upon the crowd to stop people entering the USA illegally.

The company behind foul-mouthed party game, Cards Against Humanity, have bought part of the USA border in an effort to stop Trump building a wall.

The measure, which includes funding for the Homeland Security and Interior departments and other federal agencies, would push a showdown over funding for a wall on the southern border to December 21. Bush, the nation's 41st president, died Friday at the age of 94.

However, when oil producers realized the sanctions fell far short of what had been expected, fears of oversupply followed. A delegate from another country said some members believe a smaller reduction would be adequate.

If Congress can't agree on border security or wall funding, one solution being considered by lawmakers is a measure to fund the Department of Homeland Security at current levels through the fiscal year. The congressional aides asked not to be identified because no decisions have been announced.

Previously, Trump threatened to force a partial government shutdown if Congress did not give him the money he wants for the wall. And even some Republicans balk at spending more than the $1.6 billion for fencing and other security improvements already provided. Democrats will take control of the House in January following last month's congressional elections.

Democrats have long held off on giving into Trump's demand for funding to build his border wall, which he promised Mexico would pay for throughout his 2016 presidential campaign. We will close the entire Southern Border if necessary.

The White House released a statement promptly after his passing and Trump has showered the former president with praise on Twitter.

A meeting scheduled for Tuesday between President Trump and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was canceled, and the Democratic leaders have requested a new meeting on December 11, Politico said.

Trump said he's likely to sign the short-term CR into law, which would prevent a partial shutdown of operations at the nine Cabinet departments and dozens of smaller agencies still without full-year appropriations.

The bill must pass the House and Senate, but leaders don't expect that to be a serious hurdle.

McConnell told reporters over the weekend that it's up to Trump "to do a deal with the Democrats".

"The $1.6 billion ... the language is broader than just a wall, so I think that that could probably be agreed upon, which was a figure in the Senate bill", Hoyer said.

Almost three-quarters of the federal government has been funded for the fiscal year that runs through September 30, 2019, but a stalemate remains over wall funding and several remaining federal agencies, including the Justice and State departments. Federal funding for those is set to expire at midnight on Friday.
