Airbnb removes Costa Rica listing after slaying

On Nov. 29 Costa Rican police put out an appeal for anyone who may have seen or had contact with Carla Stefaniak to come for

Burga told the BBC: "It's a frightful wait, and every single minute that Costa Rican officials are not showing the body is just a tremendous amount of pain on the family".

Walter Espinoza, the director of the country's Judicial Investigation Department said in a press conference Wednesday that investigators believe the motive behind the murder of Carla Stefaniak was "sexual".

OIJ officials said blood was discovered inside the complex, too.

The family has also created a GoFundMe page in order to raise funds for their travels to Costa Rica to find Stefaniak.

Security guard Bismark Espinosa Martinez, 32, was arrested in the slaying after he contradicted himself in statements to police, the department said Wednesday.

He was arrested after the "badly decomposed" body of a woman was found on Monday - metres from the Airbnb apartment complex where Carla Stefaniak was staying - which has now been confirmed to be that of the 36-year-old missing Florida woman.

The suspect is a Nicaraguan national who has been in Costa Rica since June.

"Since 2013, Villa Le Mas has operated a small vacation rental facility located at San Antonio, Escazu, Costa Rica".

An Airbnb representative said the company is cooperating with local authorities in Costa Rica. The following day, Stefaniak's family launched an all-out search, blanketing social media with missing person fliers, as her brother flew to San Jose to meet with investigators.

Carla Stefaniak was celebrating her birthday in Costa Rica.

Her last Instagram photo was November 25.

"Precisely, one of the aspects of the investigation has to do with her belongings", Espinoza said through a translator. Two days later, her last Instagram picture featured her in a turquoise bathing suit, lying near a pool with tropical plants in the background.

Relatives raised the alarm last week, after Stefaniak stopped texting and phoning home and was not on her return flight from Costa Rica. Her worst fears were confirmed when a gate agent told her that Stefaniak hadn't boarded the plane.

Stefaniak sent her sister-in-law a text message describing it as "pretty sketchy".

Stefaniak's body was found Monday, partly nude and covered with plastic bags near the villa she had rented.

Carla Stefaniak of Florida spent the night at the Villa le Mas, near San Jose, on November 27. "While most crimes are nonviolent, some criminals have shown a greater tendency in recent years to use violence", the US Embassy said. Her father caught a flight from Tampa International Airport on Monday.

An autopsy on Stefaniak showed multiple stab wounds to the "neck and upper extremities", as well as blunt force trauma to the head, the spokesman said.

But Stefaniak's family always maintained that the story "didn't make sense". "We are not", her family wrote on Facebook.

Airbnb encourages users to post their photos as an "important way for hosts and guests to learn about each other". "We will always be with her and we know she will always be with us". "Girls travelling alone make decisions to stay at places. Because we haven't found them during the process of our investigation". "But it is hard to have fun and have your guard up at the same time".
