The mother of a Quebec woman who is missing in Burkina Faso said she's very hopeful authorities will find her and her boyfriend, "alive and well".

Tacchetto and Blais met in Canada two years ago and have been travelling since last year, visiting European countries before heading to Africa.

Edith Blais, 34, and her companion Luca Tacchetto, have not made contact with their families since December 15, when Blais posted photos from their trip on Facebook.

The pair was supposed to stay in the capital for four or five days and possibly sell their vehicle, according to Blais' family.

"She didn't spend to eat, for a hotel, there's nothing at all", she said. They were on their way to neighbouring Togo to work on a humanitarian project, the Facebook group said.

However, while it seemed the singer couldn't make it to the award ceremony at the Beverly Hilton-she was there in spirit.

"In the last 24 hours we have practically gotten no sleep", Bergeron said.

While many have reached out with messages of support and possible leads, she says it's hard to know what is worth pursuing.

Bergeron Blais described her 34-year-old sister as an adventurous and experienced traveller.

"At first we gave her a little slack, telling ourselves 'she's a traveller, she's a bit bohemian, ' and it's possible that she just didn't give us news for a few days", Bergeron Blais said.

After hearing of the couple's disappearance, Patrick Gagnon drove along the country's border with Togo and Ghana to look for any sign of them.
