At the time, Hacienda Healthcare officials say it cannot comment specifically on the investigation, nor can it comment on the patient in this case, but the provider says it is conducting its own internal investigation, and cooperating with the police investigation.

"From what I've been told, she was moaning", an unidentified source told Phoenix CBS affiliate KPHO. Since entering the hospital's care, she's been in a complete coma.

Parents of patients at the Phoenix-based health care facility, where a female patient in a vegetative state for 14 years reportedly gave birth to a son last month, say they are shocked and seeking answers. "None of the staff were aware that she was pregnant until she was pretty much giving birth".

"Trust has definitely been broken", Cesena said of the Hacienda facility.

A spokesman for Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said the reports were "deeply troubling" and that the state was re-evaluating its contract and regulatory authority over Hacienda Healthcare to tighten up patient safety measures.

Since the allegations surfaced, the state agency has "required heightened safety measures be implemented at the facility including increased staff presence during patient interactions, increased monitoring of the patient care areas, and increased security measures with respect to visitors at the facility", according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
