Police arrested Saosongyang when he arrived at the lottery office to claim his prize

The ticket turned out to be a victor - and he thought it was worth $10,000. He returned home to tell his two roommates of his financial success.

The following morning, he headed to the closest district office of the California state lottery in Sacramento, but when he arrived he was told by officials that his ticket was worthless.

This led the man to think one of his roommates might have stolen the winning ticket while he slept that night.

Adul Saosongyang, 35, was charged with grand theft by the Vacaville Police Department on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

Police say because the victim and suspect thought the ticket was worth $10,000, the suspect likely altered a number on the ticket to match a $10,000 prize.

North Korea's Kim Jong Un ends Beijing visit as Trump summit looms
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was given a lavish welcome in the Chinese capital on Tuesday, which was his birthday. Kim added that the ongoing US-China trade talks seem to be Trump's priority more than any other issue at the moment.

Saosongyang was not able to immediately walk away with the prize money.

The next day, he took the ticket to the lottery's district office in Sacramento to cash it in but he was met with the news that the ticket could not be redeemed because it was not a victor.

A man in California regretted bragging about his winning lottery ticket after police say his roommate stole it and tried to cash it in.

Adul Saosongyang was greeted by Vacaville police as he attempted to collect the jackpot from lottery officials.

The man who actually bought the ticket will be awarded his winnings after lottery investigators verify his identity, according to the statement.

Malaysia probes claim China offered to bail out 1MDB
Najib is said to have offered the Chinese leadership, also, that ships of war may, in the future, calling at two Malaysian ports. The WSJ reached out to the Chinese government information office for a comment on the story but has yet to receive an answer.

Lottery officials began their administrative investigation that is done on all winnings over $600.

"This is when the lottery investigator and a Vacaville PD Detective began comparing notes and working together on this theft investigation", the Facebook post read.

Best case scenario, Vacaville Police Department spokesman, Lt. Chris Polen told NPR, the part-time restaurant worker figured any winnings above the cost would put a little extra cash in his pockets over the holidays.

However, no one let Saosongyang know that until Monday, when he was invited to the lottery office, presumably to collect his winnings.

He was booked at the Sacramento County Jail and will be transferred to the Solano County Jail later this week, authorities said.
