Two Dr Congo Soldiers Killed By Ebola Virus
United Nations investigators identified 59 burial sites in two of the attacked towns and more may be discovered, the mission said. According to the report, although outbreak risk remains high at the national and regional levels, the global risk level remains low. MONUSCO reports that the security situation there is now relatively calm, with national security forces having been deployed to the area.
Two soldiers from Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) based in North Kivu, eastern region have died of Ebola virus, a military official said Thursday. UNICEF aims to control and prevent the spread of the disease, and ultimately stop the outbreak; to reduce Ebola-related deaths among those infected; and to provide protection, alleviate suffering and give assistance to affected children and families.
It is the biggest Ebola outbreak since the virus ravaged West Africa between 2014 and 2016.
The Ministry of Health (MoH), WHO and partners continue to respond to an outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD), despite persistent challenges around security and community mistrust impacting response measures. The UN and its humanitarian partners dispatched emergency help - medicine, food, water tablets and malaria kits - to further help the communities.
The current spread of the disease claimed 461 lives out of 689 confirmed cases and 54 probable cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Those clashes, we think, took place between 16 and 18 December a year ago.
MONUSCO said it "strongly condemns" the violence and is calling for a thorough investigation.
