Was the 4th Hottest Year on Record. Here's How NASA Knows

(WASHINGTON D.C.)- past year was the fourth warmest since 1880, according to independent analyses by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

NASA scientists announced Wednesday that the Earth's average surface temperature in 2018 was the fourth highest in almost 140 years of record-keeping and a continuation of an unmistakable warming trend, The New York Times reports. Globally, 2018's temperatures rank behind those of 2016, 2017 and 2015.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is reporting that 2018 was the fourth warmest year on record since 1880.

Global temperatures averaged 1.49 degrees Fahrenheit above the 1951-1980 average according to NASA data, while NOAA showed 1.42F above the 1901-2000 average. Scientists say that if the world is to avoid the worst consequences of climate change, global temperatures must not rise by more than 2 degrees Celsius compared with preindustrial levels. Noting "with concern" this data, which was first released in November 2018, Guterres said it confirms "the urgency of addressing climate action", and echoes the science presented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in its October 2018 special report on the impacts of a global warming of 1.5°C. The world needs to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by the 2030s to avoid breaching limits set out in the Paris climate agreement, the United Nations warned previous year, at a time when global emissions show no sign of decline.

Earlier Monday ESPN's Tim McManus reported the Eagles informed Foles they will exercise his option for the 2019 season. But when Wentz went down with another late-year injury, Foles again sparkled and led the Eagles back to the playoffs.

"People place way too much emphasis on a single year, usually to re-enforce a story, or a narrative, they have in their mind, already", he said.

Think global warming is not real?

The US temperature in 2018 was the 14th warmest on average, said NOAA climate monitoring chief Deke Arndt.

Changes in Arctic temperatures also contribute to an increase in extreme weather events as the jet stream, a circular current of air around the Arctic that is responsible for weather patterns in the Northern Hemisphere, gets disrupted.

A chained al-Araibi yelled to reporters outside court as he was escorted by prison guards into Monday's hearing in Bangkok . He was on honeymoon in Thailand when authorities detained him at a Bangkok airport on 27 November past year .

NOAA and NASA scientists say that in regards to global temperatures, the foot is on the accelerator.

This also means Toronto's temperature rose above the global average.

Those major disasters, plus other smaller-scale disasters, made 2018 the fourth-most costly year on-record.

In January, the same organization warned that levels of planet-warming carbon dioxide will rise by a near-record amount in 2019.
