A baby was left alone on a train when a father went onto the platform in order to smoke a cigarette.

Video recorded on board a train carriage captures the moment a man stepped off a train to have a cigarette leaving his baby on board.

The man was pictured running after the train but it was in vain.

Transit police and RTA staff responded quickly and returned to the station to reunite the man and his baby.

Multiple surveillance videos from the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCTA) show the man walk into a stopped train auto and putting a vehicle seat onto a train's seat.
