The S Pen will connect wired or wirelessly to a phone, likely to be able to transfer images over. Still not satisfied, it might even add optical zoom that is mostly absent in larger smartphones. Interestingly, this isn't the first time Samsung has considered equipping its S Pen stylus with lenses.
Samsung who are known in recent years for producing devices with outstanding camera quality, have noted in the patent that digital zoom is inferior to optical (perhaps suggesting there will be some optical zoom capability) and direct reference to externally controlled sensor which could be a simple as a button on the pen or other unnamed technology. The S Pen that comes with Samsung's latest Note flagship - the Galaxy Note 9 - already has Bluetooth support. The patent granted by the USPTO adds that the S Pen camera may also have optical zooming feature. And if the camera is good enough, imagine how stable your videos could be when you're holding a pen that only weighs an ounce or two. It appears that Samsung is looking for ways to completely remove both the notch and "punch hole" display designs, but still allow Galaxy Note owners to take selfies.
