Google finally making Gmail's right-click menu more useful
Google announced recently that an update of Gmail's right-click menu functionality will land in February 2019. That's a pretty paltry selection considering how feature-packed the menus are in other web apps like Google Drive and Calendar. The update is created to make those whose email lives still remain in the browser more straightforward, with Google promising it'll begin rolling out from today.
As it is right now, right-clicking on an email can only get you three additional options, including Archive, Mark as unread, and Delete. No word on whether it will land for free Gmail users as well but it seems likely that this is going to happen.
Search for all emails from a sender, which is particularly useful to quickly access your history with that person. My personal favorite will probably be "Open in a new window". Note the updated right-click context menu will be switched on by default. The context menu can be accessed using Ctrl+click on Mac keyboards and menu key on Windows keyboards. In any case, G Suite users will be able to benefit from it starting February 22nd, or even now if they are part of the quick launch mode.
The update means that it is now possible to perform more actions directly from the inbox.
It's been less than a year since the new Gmail web UI rolled out, and the client has been steadily gaining new features, like snoozing of email.
