On Monday, a video began circulating on social media that appears to show a woman dressed in black trousers, a black leather coat and black high heels tossing the chair over the balcony, which is several storeys high.
One resident of the building from which the chair was thrown said she was angry when she learned what happened.
This is not amusing, I hope she gets caught!???? "It gave us leeway to try and treat her in the best possible way". Police said other items were tossed off the balcony as well.
Hopkinson called the incident "very callous" and said the objects could have hurt somebody.
"We are outraged by the blatant disregard for community safety on display in the video", said spokesman Ben Breit.
Constable David Hopkinson said the apartment was being used as a short-term rental.
In a statement released late Tuesday, Airbnb said it would look into whether any of its users were involved in the incident.
"I just hope that people take from the example of the consequences that will follow this woman - that this is irresponsible behaviour that is unacceptable. It was grossly irresponsible behavior that could have caused serious injury and death", he added.
