Reputed Gambino Crime Boss Frank Cali Shot Dead In Front Of Staten Island Home

The Daily Beast noted, "Cali's home is a two-minute drive from where one of his predecessors, late Gambino boss Paul Castellano, lived in an ostentatious mansion dubbed the White House until he was executed outside Sparks Steak House in Manhattan in 1985".

Cali was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North and declared dead, the sources said.

Police said there have been no arrests and an investigation is ongoing.

Infamous mob boss Francesco "Franky Boy" Cali has died.

The reputed head of New York's Gambino crime family, Frank Cali, has been killed outside his home, the city's police have told U.S. media.

Brexit breakthrough as May secures win
That Britain has been in a fix since the "yes" vote on Brexit 33 months ago has no two opinions. If they turn down that option they will vote on Thursday on delaying Brexit.

Authorities believe Cali, who has kept a low profile in comparison to his predecessors, had ties to the Inzerillo mafia family in Sicily.

The influence of the Gambinos waned in the 1990s after a number of members turned government informers and several leaders were imprisoned.

Cali only had one criminal conviction, having spent 16 months for a 2008 federal extortion charge in connection with a failed bit to build a NASCAR race track in Staten Island.

Cali had been considered a unifying figure in the crime family, in the years after John Gotti was convicted and sent to prison by cooperating mob witnesses.

Last October, 71-year-old Sylvester Zottola, a reputed associate of the Bonanno organisation, was shot dead at a takeaway restaurant in the Bronx, New York.

It was a marked change from the Gotti era, which brought with its unnecessary attention and exposure.

Business Insider said Cali essentially was in charge of New York City's city's food industry and was worth an estimated $30 million.

He rose quickly through the ranks of organized crime, becoming a powerful capo before the age of 40, less than a decade after he became an inducted member, according to court papers.

Cali's wife and children were home at the time of the shooting.

In June 2008, Cali pleaded guilty to conspiring to extort money and was jailed in Brooklyn, before being released the following year.
