Parents’ fear as daughter, 23, vanishes in Guatemala

Catherine Shaw went missing in Guatemala on March 5

Shaw, from Witney, Oxfordshire, had been staying with a friend in San Pedro on Lake Atitlán, 45 miles west of the capital, Guatemala City, and was last seen on 4 March.

Footage recorded on a CCTV camera from the night Catherine went missing recorded the 23-year-old leaving the Mayachik eco-hotel on March 5 while carrying a "musical instrument".

Last night the Lucie Blackman Trust, which helps the relatives of people missing overseas, said: "We are now able to confirm that the body found in the search in Guatemala is that of missing Catherine Shaw".

She then left again for the last time at 5.23am, heading in the direction of the lake.

California governor suspends death penalty
In recent years, other states have abolished the death penalty and several other governors have placed moratoriums on executions. Gavin Newsom is putting a moratorium on the death penalty in California, sparing the lives of more than 700 death-row inmates.

It also said Guatemalan tourists found the puppy that Shaw had taken with her alive on Friday.

Shaw headed towards the lake when she left the second time, and did not return.

In a statement released through the Lucie Blackman Trust - which supports British nationals in crisis overseas - her parents have expressed their fears for Catherine's wellbeing.

A hand drum, known as a hang, previously reported to be in Ms Shaw's possession, was left behind and has been located, and she did not have a guitar with her when she left, the trust added.

Nadler, on Wednesday, did not elaborate on what exactly Whitaker said behind closed doors about the phone call. "Mr. Cohen at all, and had no conversations with the Southern District of New York", Collins told reporters.

Other challenges in the search also included communication issues due to lack of power in the area.

Her friend, Jess Elizabeth, told The Tab: "She's a beautiful soul, loves nature, outdoors, looking after the planet, interested in permaculture, yoga, travelling".

The woman's father had arrived in Guatemala to assist the search for Shaw, the British Embassy confirmed, adding that it was supporting the family and authorities.

"If anyone knows of friends in the area that may be mistaken for Catherine, please let us know". "Please come home, sweetheart".
