Novak Djokovic stunned by Philipp Kohlschreiber at Indian Wells

Unseeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber will face 18th-seeded Frenchman Gael Monfils Wednesday evening in a fourth-round match in the BNP Paribas Open, one day after upsetting Novak Djokovic, the world's top-ranked men's singles player.

The match between Djokovic and Kohlschreiber began on Monday but was delayed until Tuesday because of heavy rain.

"They are all special, but the first [title] in Munich in 2004 stands out, playing in front of the home crowd and in front of family and friends, was especially something special of course", he said.

While it is being assumed it was just one of the bad days for Nole, there are debates that Nole was under pressure due to off-field controversy.

"To be honest, I don't enjoy losing", Djokovic said after falling 6-4, 6-4 to 39th-ranked German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third round. "Completely different conditions today: Ball bounces much higher". I wasn't playing well.

In Mozambique, 111 people have been injured, 18 hospitals destroyed, 938 classrooms destroyed and 9,763 students affected. The Civil Protection Unit evacuated more than 700 people who were marooned by floods in the district.

Defeat was hard to take for Djokovic - who returned to win in the doubles later on Tuesday - but he was not dwelling on it, particularly with another big tournament on the horizon. "He deserved to win". The fit of pique did nothing to improve his fortunes as Kohlschreiber opened the second set with a break.

The display of emotion didn't change anything as Kohlschreiber opened the second set with a service break and broke Djokovic again in the seventh game to give himself a chance to serve for the match.

Djokovic was bidding to win a sixth title in Indian Wells, which would have broken a tie with Roger Federer for most victories at the ATP 1000 tournament.

World number two Nadal stayed on track to improve that number as he swept past Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-1 to reach the last 16.

Nadal, a three-time champion at Indian Wells, did not face a break point in the match. "I must admit I was thinking about it. but it's part of our world, and we just have to bounce back very quickly".

It's really risky to play any football here in this moment, and I think it's really very unsafe for injuries. I think Ruben has absolutely everything and to be fair he's had a few injury problems this season.

"I had to get over it [defeat to Kohlschreiber] in an hour", he added.

The Serb, who now holds three of the four Grand Slam titles, was beaten 6-4 6-4 by the German world number 39.

Federer took his record to 22-3 over Wawrinka, a former world number three who is climbing back up the rankings in the wake of double knee surgery.

He said: "Whatever the problems were with Djokovic, whether he is less than 100 per-cent medically or whether the off-court politics have got to him - who knows, Kohlschreiber has beaten him". "For me, the plan worked". I'm hitting the ball well.

"You can't always make it work". I had two good wins [entering] the match.
