BREAKING NOW: Rockets Fired Towards Tel Aviv, Missiles Intercepted by Israeli Defenses

Air Raid Warning Sirens Go Off In Tel Aviv After Apparent Gaza Rocket Attack

It would be the first time that Tel Aviv has been targeted by rocket fire since a 2014 war against Gaza militants.

Hamas denied involvement for the rocket salvo, which it said took place as its leaders met Egyptian delegates about efforts to secure a long-term ceasefire with Israel.

Israeli media reported that Islamic Jihad, not Hamas, claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.

Gaza is controlled by Hamas, an Islamic militant group that seeks Israel's destruction. The Iran-backed Al-Sabareen terrorist group in Gaza has yet to release an official statement following the rocket attacks.

A Hamas official told the The Times of Israel that the terror group "has no interest in an escalation" with Israel.

It was not immediately clear which terror faction was responsible for the rocket fire toward Tel Aviv.

"We don't know who carried it out", Manelis said, adding: "The Hamas organisation is the main organisation in the Strip. It's time to defeat Hamas, it's time to demilitarize the Gaza Strip", he said.

"These attacks also show why Congressional support for systems like Iron Dome are so critical".
