The movement is just one of dozens that will happen around the world, inspired by Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg, who has been holding weekly protests in front of Sweden's parliament since August 2018.
"When I saw that (Fridays for Future) was planning to have an inaugural protest in the USA on March 15th, I sent out a message to a few friends to see if they wanted to organize a student strike in Bellingham", Gardner said in an email.
