Last remaining US diplomats leave Venezuela

26 January 2019 Venezuela Caracas Numerous demonstrators raise their hands in support of the self-proclaimed interim president Guaido at a rally of the opposition in the Venezuelan capital

A convoy was seen leaving the USA embassy in Caracas on Thursday morning and the American flag was no longer flying outside.

"Venezuelans have defeated this terror attack and we are now preparing to move forward", Maduro argued.

According to Reuters US official said the diplomats were flown out in a civilian charter aircraft. The United States and 54 other countries have recognized Guaido Venezuela's interim president.

However, the company's R&D Vice President, Yang Byung-duk, says that such a design will take a year or two at least. Practically all new phones have screens that stretch edge-to-edge with very thin bezels surrounding them.

The Venezuelan National Assembly, dominated by the opposition, has declared a state of alarm over the blackout that the Maduro government blamed on a US cyber-attack and that plunged the struggling country into darkness and chaos for five days. On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed the last remaining American diplomats have left the country.

In his statement, Pompeo praised the diplomats on an emotional day as they abandoned the embassy. He added, the USA will resume its presence in the country "once the transition to democracy begins", though he declined to offer a specific timeline.

James Story, who was the top-ranking US diplomat in Venezuela, said in a video message that most Venezuelans don't support Maduro and that the government had used "the threat of armed gangs" against its people. "They are fully dedicated to our mission of supporting the Venezuelan people's aspirations to live in a democracy and build a better future for their families".

The labor action came days after the State Department issued a new warning that urged Americans to avoid the country, which was most recently gripped by a days-long nationwide power outage that further battered its economy.

Pompeo said the diplomats assigned to Venezuela will continue their work "from other locations" where they will continue to work on getting humanitarian assistance to the Venezuelan people "and support the democratic actors bravely resisting tyranny".

The United States is one of about 50 countries that have thrown their support behind opposition leader Guaido, who has announced himself "interim president" after last year's disputed election.

Trump issues first veto after rebuke of border order
The emergency declaration is being challenged in court as an unconstitutional usurpation of Congress' power of the purse. The measure ultimately passed 59-41, and Trump immediately vowed to veto.

Maduro blamed the blackouts on alleged sabotage engineered by the USA and the Venezuelan opposition. He has also promised an investigation into Guaido for "alleged involvement in the sabotage of the Venezuelan electricity system".
