A convoy was seen leaving the USA embassy in Caracas on Thursday morning and the American flag was no longer flying outside.

"Venezuelans have defeated this terror attack and we are now preparing to move forward", Maduro argued.

According to Reuters US official said the diplomats were flown out in a civilian charter aircraft. The United States and 54 other countries have recognized Guaido Venezuela's interim president.

The Venezuelan National Assembly, dominated by the opposition, has declared a state of alarm over the blackout that the Maduro government blamed on a US cyber-attack and that plunged the struggling country into darkness and chaos for five days. On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed the last remaining American diplomats have left the country.

In his statement, Pompeo praised the diplomats on an emotional day as they abandoned the embassy. He added, the USA will resume its presence in the country "once the transition to democracy begins", though he declined to offer a specific timeline.

James Story, who was the top-ranking US diplomat in Venezuela, said in a video message that most Venezuelans don't support Maduro and that the government had used "the threat of armed gangs" against its people. "They are fully dedicated to our mission of supporting the Venezuelan people's aspirations to live in a democracy and build a better future for their families".

The labor action came days after the State Department issued a new warning that urged Americans to avoid the country, which was most recently gripped by a days-long nationwide power outage that further battered its economy.

Pompeo said the diplomats assigned to Venezuela will continue their work "from other locations" where they will continue to work on getting humanitarian assistance to the Venezuelan people "and support the democratic actors bravely resisting tyranny".

The United States is one of about 50 countries that have thrown their support behind opposition leader Guaido, who has announced himself "interim president" after last year's disputed election.
