In a huge relief for the former India cricketer and Bigg Boss contestant S Sreesanth, the Supreme Court on Friday set aside the life ban imposed on him for being involved in spot fixing during 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The apex court also said that its verdict shall have no effect on the criminal proceedings pending against the former cricketer in the Delhi High Court, where the Delhi Police has challenged a trial court's order discharging all accused, including Sreesanth, in the IPL spot-fixing case.

The Supreme Court has also ordered the BCCI to reconsider their decision of life ban on Sreesanth in a period of three months. Later, the division bench of the high court had restored the ban on a petition filed by the BCCI against the single-judge bench's order.

July 2015: Two days after the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha Committee issued a two-year ban on IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, a Delhi court exonerates Sreesanth and 35 others-including Chavan and Chandila-in the spot-fixing case.

The Supreme Court made it clear its order will not impact the criminal proceedings now pending against Sreesanth in the Delhi High Court.

"The order dated 13.09.2013 of the disciplinary committee only to the extent of imposing sanction of lifetime ban is set aside". Calling the ban on Sreesanth playing cricket "unfair", senior advocate Salman Khurshid, appearing for the cricketer, told the bench that "nowhere in the world, life ban has been imposed on a cricketer like this". Sreesanth then moved the top court challenging the Kerala High Court order upholding the lifetime ban on him. He has lost six most precious years of his life.
