Half of the volunteers will be put a machine that spins them around for half an hour, mimicking what an artificial gravity chamber would do.

"The use of artificial gravity might be the best solution for human health protection during human long-duration deep space missions", lead scientist Dr. Edwin Mulder from the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine, told The Sun.

"A number of different experiments will be carried out over the course of the study, looking at cardiovascular function, balance and muscle strength, metabolism and cognitive performance among other factors", the European Space Agency said.

The 24 men and women will spend their days and nights in beds angled downward by six degrees, propped up with their feet at an incline above their heads, with one shoulder touching the mattress at all times, the report said. Participants are required to speak German and be between 24 and 55 and healthy.
