House Dems to vote on condemning Trump on health care

Dems divided after Pelosi says she's not for impeachment

"Obamacare is a disaster".

But a White House official said Thursday that Short "spoke too soon" because aides are still debating whether the administration will take the lead in crafting a proposal or ask Congress to step in.

A federal judge ruled against the Trump administration's highly touted small-business health insurance plan, calling it an "end run" around consumer protections provided by the Affordable Care Act.

While this case won't be resolved anytime soon, the Trump administration's decision to advocate for the end of the current system gives 2020 candidates an opportunity to hammer Republicans for being against the improvements Obamacare made to the USA healthcare system without a way of ensuring that whatever comes next will be better.

It's been a controversial couple of days at the Department of Justice.

After he entered the White House in January 2017, Trump urged his fellow Republicans to repeal Obamacare, something that they tried and failed repeatedly to do.

"Congress isn't going to let 40 million people go without health care", vowed Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., the chair of the Republican Study Committee, which is trying to prep legislation that would fill the void in the event the law is overturned.

"Americans raised their hand and said, 'We want the Affordable Care Act protected, therefore we're going to vote for the party that says it will protect and preserve and, yes, even expand the Affordable Care Act, '" Representative Steny Hoyer, the No. 2 House Democrat, said at a Tuesday news conference.

Says Schumer: "The Trump position ties a two-year anchor around the neck of every Republican for the next two years".

Conway said Obamacare had not been a "magic elixir" since more than 27.4 million non-elderly individuals in the United States were without health insurance in 2017, according to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

Democrats, on the other hand, rejoiced. "We'll wait and see what it is", said Sen.

Trump won a political victory over the weekend when Special Counsel Robert Mueller said his 22-month probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election had found no evidence that Trump's campaign team colluded with Moscow.

"ObamaCare is a failure", McCarthy told Fox News.

Obamacare survived a 2012 legal challenge at the Supreme Court when a majority of justices ruled the "individual mandate", which requires individuals to buy insurance or pay a penalty, was a tax that Congress had the authority to impose.

In that case, Texas v. Azar, Judge Reed O'Connor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas ruled that the ACA's individual coverage mandate was unconstitutional and that the rest of the law also must fall.

Critics view the law as a costly government intrusion into the private marketplace, and complain of high deductibles and premiums that price out some middle-income people who do not get subsidized coverage.
