Global Health Mum as Deadly ‘Unbeatable‘ Superbug Gains Ground
"However, many of these people had other serious illnesses that also increased their risk of death", the CDC said.
What makes it deadly is that it is a drug-resistant fungus.
The germ is a fungus called Candida Auris and preys on people with weakened immune systems.
An article published in the New York Times claimed the deadly fungus has recently reached New York, New Jersey and IL, prompting the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to add it to the list of unsafe and violent bacteria.
According to the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, it kills about half of all patients who contract it within 90 days.
CDC Investigates Multistate E coli O103 Outbreak
The cases have been recorded in five states - Georgia (8), Kentucky (36), OH (5), Tennessee (21), and Virginia (2). Antibiotics are not recommended for patients with suspected E. coli infections until testing has been performed.
Candida Auris is considered to be particularly problematic because it is resistant to antifungal drugs now available. Tests showed it was everywhere in his room, so invasive that the hospital needed special cleaning equipment and had to rip out some of the ceiling and floor tiles to eradicate it.

The Brooklyn patient died 90 days after being admitted to hospital, but the Candida Auris did not disappear.
Symptoms of C. auris infection depend on the part of the body affected. The first involved a 24-year-old Bangladeshi male who flew to Singapore to seek medical treatment, while the second involved a 69-year-old United States male citizen who was suffering from a lung disease.
According to the New York Times, in 2015, there was an outbreak at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, which resulted in 72 total cases of C. auris.
This fungus C Auris has also reached other parts of the world like New York, New Jersey and IL, and other regions of Asia. Finally, it has caused outbreaks in healthcare settings.
A powerful superbug is spreading in hospitals all around the world and it's emerging as a serious global health threat.
Some hospitals and medical professionals have argued that since precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of such outbreaks, publicising an outbreak would scare people unnecessarily, The New York Times said.
Almost half of the patients who are infected with the C. auris die in 90 days.
