Warner Bros has launched legal action against Donald Trump after he used music from The Dark Knight Rises in a tweet
According to BuzzFeed News, the score comes from Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for "The Dark Knight Rises", and Warner Bros., which owns the rights, is pursuing legal action to have the video taken down. "We are working through the appropriate legal channels to have it removed", a company spokesperson said in a statement. Trump has used a similar quote in the past, attributing it to Mahatma Gandhi, though there is no evidence Gandhi said it. "2020, ' the video states, using the 'Dark Knight Rises" font.
The White House has sought to portray Trump's and/or his social media team's habit of lifting copyrighted material for ego-stroking purposes as some kind of bastardized, populist patriotic tradition.
Cut into the footage are scenes from Trump's time in office, including a headline proclaiming he was exonerated of collusion by the Mueller report, the confirmation hearing of US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's summits with North Korea's Kim Jong Un and a soaring Dow Jones industrial average. The two-minute video not only utilizes Hans Zimmer's "Why Do We Fall?" from the 2012 threequel, but also shares the font used for the film's title cards.
The video ended with a message saying "your vote proved them all wrong" and called the 2020 re-election "the great victory".
